Kopp Motorsports to visit
Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children
Drag racing team will
provide unique opportunity to get close to 225-mph
racecar
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO (September 13,
2008) – Drag racer Rick Kopp may race his car regularly at 225 mph, but
he’ll have it parked on University Avenue in Toronto next Friday morning
demonstrating some of its features at the Hospital for Sick
Children.
As part of its mandate as the largest center in Canada
dedicated to improving children’s health, special guests from a variety of walks
of life speak to the children and provide demonstrations.
And seldom will the hospital see such a vibrant
colorful demonstration as Kopp’s rear-engined dragster with its huge rear tires,
sleek orange body, and 2000-horsepower engine.
Kopp is scheduled to be at the hospital Friday, September
19, from 11:00 a.m. until noon.
He will be speaking to the children about his racing,
taking part in a question-and-answer session, and then showing his car and its
unique features.
“I’m very excited about this,” said Kopp, who lives in
Burlington and has raced for close to 30 years. “I know I will enjoy talking to
the kids and showing them the car. It’s a great way I can give back to the
community.”
Racing the Stanley Tools-sponsored dragster is only part
of Kopp’s racing career. When not blasting down the quarter-mile at speeds over
200 mph, Kopp and his crew provide a terrific visual demonstration for many
grand openings and special events at Home Depots across Ontario as part of his
association with the retail building store chain. He also is involved with
Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes for those in need.
Kopp mentioned his upcoming visit will be an
entertaining experience for the children.
“Other sports figures visit the Hospital,” he said. “But
unlike a hockey or baseball player the kids will be able to get up close to see
and touch and learn about my sport. This will be something they’ll never
forget.”
