| NHRA to Visit Wounded US Troops in Germany
|
|
Five goodwill ambassadors from the National
Hot Rod Association will once again take part in a USO-sponsored
trip to Germany to visit wounded American troops at the
Kaiserslautern Military Community, including six-time Pro Stock
champion Warren Johnson and two-time Pro Stock champion Jim Yates,
both Pontiac drivers.
"We've been planning this visit to
Ramstein AB, Germany, from the day we got back from last year's
trip," said Fred Simmonds, GM drag racing marketing manager. "But
this second trip is not the whole story. NHRA sponsors have been
providing souvenir gift items to our Army Special Forces Association
members throughout the year so that they can deliver these gifts in
person on their frequent trips to visit the troops. These guys are
not only Special Forces, but they're special people." (view story)

| Subplots Highlight Johnson's Championship
|
|
The story everyone in racing knows is that
Monte Carlo SS driver Jimmie Johnson won the NASCAR Nextel Cup
championship. But other story plots leading up to that moment
provide a unique review of the championship:
. Johnson wins
NASCAR's "Triple Crown" . Behind every good man is a good woman
. Jeff Gordon gave Johnson a shot . Johnson realizes dream
after off-road career . Title comes two years after fatal
airplane crash . Championship is 20th in Modern Era for a Chevy
driver
These and other subplots are explored and summarized,
from a variety of interview sessions that took place this past
weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. (view story)

| GM Rookie Success Points to Future |
|
Racing is mostly about the here and now.
But the
season-ending NASCAR Nextel Cup race in Miami gave Chevy reason to
be very optimistic about the future as well. Monte Carlo SS driver
Denny Hamlin finished third in the race and more importantly third
in the Nextel Cup championship, easily winning Rookie of the Year
honors. He won two races during the season (both at Pocono) and ran
strong on a consistent basis, especially for his first full season.
