| Team Chevy Celebrates Success and Record Wins in Daytona
|
|
Chevrolet race teams kicked off the 2007
NASCAR season with a bang after Monte Carlo SS drivers scored
victories at the Daytona 500, the Orbitz 300 Busch Series race and
both Gatorade Duel qualifying races while at Daytona International
Speedway. Monte Carlo SS driver Kevin Harvick followed up his Busch
Series win on Saturday with his first-ever win of the Daytona 500.
Harvick's victory also earned the Bowtie brand its 20th Daytona 500
victory.
"We are extremely proud of our Chevy teams for our
success in Daytona," said Ed Peper, general manager of Chevrolet. "I
also want to congratulate Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress. It is
very special that Kevin's victory is the second Daytona 500 win for
the Richard Childress Racing organization, following Dale
Earnhardt's victory in 1998, and appropriately takes place just as
the "DALE" movie honoring Earnhardt and his career
debuts."
Chevy Monte Carlo SS drivers Tony Stewart and Jeff
Gordon swept both Gatorade Duels on Thursday. Stewart's win of the
first Duel scored the 100th victory for his Joe Gibbs Racing
organization while Gordon notched his fourth Duel win and 13th
career victory at Daytona International Speedway. |

| GM Racing Profile |
|
| Mark Kent, Director of GM Racing |
|
Mark Kent is like many of his colleagues at GM Racing - it's
not just a vocation, it's all passion - and for Kent it started at
age 12 when his father first took him to the Indy 500 in 1972. "I've
been hooked on racing ever since," Kent said.
The mechanical
engineer major from Purdue University said growing up a race fan
gives him a good perspective in his role to know what the fans want,
need and appreciate. And from his first job in a hardware store as a
teenager to his current vocation as director of racing, Kent still
has a fascination of how things work and how to make them better.
