Rod Fuller isn’t the type
of guy to settle for second best. It’s only the highest quality, top of the
line when it comes to his racecar. With a whopping $72,000 invested in his
newest dragster, you can bet he has the best money can buy. |

His investment has really paid
off too. Fuller has won many races, including big bucks bracket races and
NHRA super class races. He even won this year’s NHRA Checker, Shucks, Kragen
Nationals in Phoenix at the start of this season in Super Gas and just won
Super Comp Eliminator at The NHRA Summer Nationals at Topeka, Kansas. In his
15 years in the sport “Hot Rod”, as he’s known by, has had numerous cars all
which have been built by Undercover Race Cars. This car is no different.
Undercover built this 235-inch wheelbase chassis using a 9-inch Ford
rear-end from Mark Williams. The housing has Williams’ 40-spline axles and a
4:10 Richmond gear set. Rod’s dragster has been set up with a 4-link
suspension utilizing Afco shocks and hypercoil springs. Stopping power comes
from a pair of rear disc-brakes that are top of the line Mark Williams.
Speaking of power Fuller has plenty of it with his
565-cubic inch Madcap built big-block Chevy motor. The able staff at Madcap
Racing Engines of Denver, Colorado installed a 4-1/2-inch stroke Winberg
Crankshaft with Manley rods and 15 to1 compression JE pistons. The rings are
from Speed Pro. This motor also has a Moroso oil pump and pan, plus a Jesel
belt drive up front. The camshaft is a high-lift roller with a 798-duration
and .816” lift. The cylinder heads have been ported and polished and are
iron, Dart 360’s with Manley valves and springs with push rods, roller
lifters, retainers and 1.8 ratio roller rocker arms all from Crane. Cooling
comes from a CSI water pump and Ron Davis radiator and cooling fan.
High-quality ARP studs and fasteners keep everything together, which is real
important if you plan on going round after round. A King Demon 1095cfm
carburetor is mounted atop a Dart aluminum intake manifold with a Dedenbear
disc type throttle stop in between for precise throttle control. The air is
cleaned by a K&N high-flow air filter. Spark come from a MSD box,
distributor and HVC-2 coil. Rod employs a pair of Dyna Tech headers with
mufflers to help produce the near 1000-horsepower at 7000rpm. A 2-speed
Powerglide built by B&M uses a 1.76 low gear, and torque converter that
stalls to 5800-rpm, also from B&M. Gear changes come from a sleek B&M “Pro
Bandit” shifter which sends the power rearward to a set off 16-inch wide
Hoosier slicks. In the cockpit Rod ahs a cool Momo steering wheel, Auto
Meter gauges with an Auto Meter Ultimate playback tach, Painless Wiring
switch panel and a Dedenbear all-in-one Command Center. The seat upholstery
comes from Dennis Taylor with safety harness by Simpson.
Rod’s goal is to keep winning races and hopefully the NHRA
World Championship. Fuller expresses his appreciation to his wife Tammy and
all his Sponsors including Valvoline Motor Oil, Madcap Racing Engines,
Undercover Chassis Inc. as well as the many others who have helped out.
