Taylor Ready for Wild West
Shootout
ANAHEIM, CA — Coming off a steady performance with impressive top speeds
and quick elapsed times at the season opening Winternationals, Dennis
Taylor’s entire Plumbing Concepts crew is upbeat. While traveling to
Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona, for this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil
Drag Racing Series Pacific Division 7 event, each crew member was
energized by the team’s recent accomplishments. Dennis noted, “Even
though we didn’t turn on the win light in Pomona, our performance is
strong, we have consistency, and our confidence is renewed. We don’t
like to talk about our chances at any given race, but we know the car
likes what we’re giving it and that’s a great way to start the season.”
On the tuning side of things, Ora Vasquez mentioned, “This car has been
awfully impressive between pre-season testing and Pomona. We’ve run in
the 5.60s on almost every pass, and so far the car is showing the same
level of consistency that we enjoyed in 2005. Terry Morrow and I have
been good friends for many years, and it’s great having him onboard as
my Co-Crew Chief.”
Taylor expects to see anywhere from 16 to 20 top-notch cars battling for
the coveted 8-car qualified field. And with this being the first Pacific
Division 7 event of the 2007 season, it’s critical to get off to a good
start and emerge from Firebird Raceway with as many points as possible.
Dennis credits this season’s performance curve to his new components
from Alan Johnson Performance Engines. He added, “Last year, we walked a
fine line between getting down the track and flat-out overpowering it.
Now, we’re better able to manage the power this thing makes and feel as
though we’re headed in the right direction.” The team knows their
weekend won’t be a cakewalk by any means, but they do expect to be in
the hunt.
