Hubinette Seeks Second Straight Win at Road Atlanta

Coming off his victory in the season-opening Formula D event at Long Beach, Calif., in April, Samuel Hubinette couldn't ask for a better venue as he attempts to make it two wins in a row. The second stop of the 2006 season, Road Atlanta, has been very kind to the "Crazy Swede," as he's won the first two Formula D events held at the facility in 2004 and 2005. If Hubinette has his way, his domination will continue in 2006.

"I've been fortunate to win both of the Atlanta events in the past," said Hubinette. "We've definitely been coming up strong there, and that gives me comfort heading back. I love the fans at Road Atlanta. They're a good crowd, and they really seem to enjoy drifting, that's for sure."

Hubinette has gained confidence from his Long Beach win, but he knows he can't get complacent with the level of drifting talent he competes against regularly in Formula D.

"Because I did very well at the D1 event in March and took the win at Long Beach, it definitely makes me feel more relaxed heading into Round 2. But I still have to be at the top of my game to pull out another victory. I know the competition level in Formula D is higher than ever. Everybody is running at an insanely high level. There is such a small difference between losing and winning."

Heading into Round 2 of the Formula D Drift Series at Road Atlanta in Georgia, scheduled for May 12-13, Hubinette leads the Formula D Drift point standings, with a 13-point gap between him and the second-place Rhys Millen. "Mopar’s involvement with a tradition rich event such as the Mopar Belleville Midget Nationals is an outstanding opportunity for us to showcase our authentic motorsports programs. The longevity of this event goes hand in hand with what Mopar’s racing endeavors encompass--the staying power of the sport."

—Kevin Miller, Senior Manager, Mopar Brand, Performance & Motorsports, on Mopar's sponsorship of the Belleville Midget Nationals. Team Mopar's Josh Wise [above], who won the event in 2003, will take part in the 2006 event, scheduled for July 28-29.

Mopar Set to Sponsor Belleville Midget Nationals

Mopar will sponsor the 29th Annual Belleville Midget Nationals event at the Belleville High Banks in Kansas on July 28-29. The Mopar Belleville Midget Nationals will feature the stars of the USAC National and Western States Midget Car Series, as well as participants from other midget racing series around the country.

"We are really pleased to have Mopar as a partner with the Midget Nationals," said Mark Miller of the Belleville Nationals Midget Board. "As the longest running and most prestigious midget race in the world, Mopar is a great fit as being a major partner within the midget community for many years."

The Belleville High Banks, known as the "World's Fastest Half-Mile Dirt Track," has hosted the historic event since 1978. The Mopar Belleville Midget Nationals event will follow in a history-rich tradition, as the best racers from the east and west will meet head-to-head at the nearly 100-year old facility. The event will again pay out over $12,500 to the winner, making it one of the highest paying midget races of the year.

Former event winners include Mopar's Josh Wise in 2003, and Evernham Motorsports' Kasey Kahne. Kahne won the event back-to-back in 2000 and 2001. USAC veteran and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon won the event in 1990.

Tickets for the Mopar Belleville Midget Nationals can be purchased by contacting Jensik Insurance at (785) 527-5179. Tickets will be on sale daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST.
