Mopar All-Star Showdown
Set for This Weekend

Race teams from around the country are one step closer to the Mopar All-Star Showdown at Concord Motorsport Park, as there are only three days left until the green flag falls. The All-Star Showdown will be held Sunday, May 21, one day after the NASCAR Nextel Cup All-Star event. Today's stars of open-wheel racing and future NASCAR stars will compete at the North Carolina track, in the heart of stock car country.

Showcasing the USAC National Sprint Car and Midget Car Series, the Mopar All-Star Showdown will feature two 50-lap feature event finales. The USAC Sprint Car Series event will present competitors with an opportunity to take home a piece of the $30,000-plus purse, while USAC Midget Car Series competitors will vie for over $20,000 in purse money and contingencies.

Metrolina Brand Promotions has dedicated a Web site, MetrolinaBrand.com, solely to the Mopar All-Star Showdown event. The site provides event information, ranging from technical information about the machines of the USAC National Sprint and Midget Car Series, to event schedules and photos. Race fans can also purchase official Mopar All-Star Showdown event merchandise from the Web site.

Entries include Team Mopar's Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises, Hoffman Auto Racing and Wilke-PAK Motorsports. Josh Wise, the 2005 USAC National Midget Car Series champion, and Levi Jones, the 2005 USAC National Sprint Car Series champion, will pilot the respective No. 20 and No. 21 entries for Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises. NASCAR Busch Grand National driver Tracy Hines will compete in the No. 69 Hoffman Auto Racing sprint entry and for Wilke-PAK Motorsports in the No. 11x USAC midget, while Jerry Coons Jr., will pilot the No. 11 Wilke-PAK Motorsports entry. The event is expected to draw competitors from across the country in both series.

Gates are scheduled to open to the public at 3:30 p.m. EST, with qualifying slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. EST. Racing will begin at 7 p.m. EST. Fireworks will follow the conclusion of the two 50-lap feature events. Tickets can be purchased in advance by logging on to MetrolinaBrand.com. Prices range from $10 to $25 per ticket.

Roy and Revonda Johnson were honored recently for their contributions to the sport of auto racing. Roy Johnson and son Allen Johnson co-own the J&J Racing Mopar Dodge Stratus R/T that Allen campaigns on the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock circuit.

Johnsons Honored at
'Cruising Memory Lane' Event

J&J Racing's Roy and Revonda Johnson were recently honored for their contributions to the sport of auto racing at the "Cruising Memory Lane" event in Johnson City, Tenn. The award was given to the Johnsons in representation of the association's appreciation of the couple's positive impact on the sport. Over 2,500 attended the "Cruising Memory Lane" event, including retired professional racers from all series of motor racing.

The Johnsons, along with their son, Allen, owned a two-car NHRA Super Stock team in the 1970s and 1980s, and had success in the division at a national level. After taking a short hiatus from the sport in the late 1980s, J&J Racing came back into the scene in 1995 in the NHRA Super Comp division. Roy served as the crew chief on the car.

In 1996, J&J Racing made their NHRA Pro Stock debut in the Mopar Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado. The team was able to qualify their Dodge Avenger for the event and Roy was named as the "Crew Chief of the Race" in the NHRA Pro Stock Division. The family owned team has been a part of NHRA Pro Stock racing ever since. Allen Johnson currently drives the J&J Racing Mopar Dodge Stratus R/T on the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Circuit, scoring a win last year at the Phoenix event.
