Josh Wise (left) passed Mopar and Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises
teammate Levi Jones on the final lap, to win the Hoosier Hundred. The two
dominated the event, with Wise qualifying No. 1 and Jones No.

Wise Jones Dominate Hoosier Hundred Finish 1-2 The Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises duo of Josh Wise and Levi
Jones may have taken a break from USAC Silver Crown Series competition
thus far in 2006, but their stunning one-two sweep of the 54th Annual
Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on May 26 proved to
competitors that they hadn't missed a step. Kicking the evening off by
qualifying first and second, Wise and Jones dominated the 100-mile
event.
Wise, who had set quick time in the No. 10 Tony Stewart Racing
Enterprises entry, battled near the front throughout the event. After
several attempts to take over his teammate Jones on restarts, Wise got a
run on Jones off turn three to secure the lead. Wise only led one lap
throughout the event, but it was the lap that counted most.
Jones and the No. 22 team showed their strength from the start of the
event, setting second quick time in qualifying run. Jones drove a flawless
race, hugging the No. 22 to the guardrail in defense of his lead position,
but couldn't hold off the hard-charging Wise on the last lap.
Wise and Jones will resume USAC Silver Crown Series action on August 5
at the Terre Haute Action Track. For more information regarding Wise,
Jones or USAC Racing, log on to joshwiseracing.com, levijones.com or usacracing.com. |
Capps Takes Fourth Win of Season at TopekaWith two straight first round exits entering the O'Reilly NHRA Summer
Nationals at Topeka, Kansas, NHRA POWERade Funny Car points leaders Ron
Capps was looking to go rounds. And that's just what he did, all the
way to the final round, where the Team Mopar and Don Schumacher Racing
driver knocked off John Force to notch his fourth win of the season.
Capps defeated Cruz Pedregon, teammate Whit Bazemore and John
Force Racing's Robert Hight en route to his sixth final round appearance
of the season. The win was the 21st of Capps' career. It also marked the
first victory for a Dodge Charger Funny Car, as Capps recently switched
from a Stratus to his Brut Dodge Charger R/T.
"I'm blessed right now," said Capps, who increased his lead over Force
to 109 points. "I'm enjoying this car."
Team Mopar and DSR driver Bazemore lost a quarterfinals nail-biter to
teammate Capps in a side-by-side battle of Hemi-powered Chargers. Capps
grabbed the win by only four feet, or a .0086 second margin of victory.
Bazemore is seventh in the NHRA Funny Car points standings. The third
member of the Team Mopar and DSR triple threat, Gary Scelzi also
lost a heartbreaker in the quarterfinals, suffering a defeat in his
Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T at the hands of Robert Hight by only a
.0097 second margin. Despite the loss, recent strong performances by
Scelzi have helped to move him into 10th in the Funny Car points race.
The Team Mopar Funny Car trio will see action next at the CARQUEST Auto
Parts NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., June 9-11. For

"I got up there and I was so poised to leave the starting line. I don't
know what happened to him [final round opponent John Force], but my car
vibrated, moved next to the wall and I thought, 'Baby, just stay in here,
stay in here, don't pull the tires loose.' And my win light was on down
there. I couldn't believe it. [I'm] Just shaking my head in
disbelief."

Summer Nationals. |

Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 to Debut at 'The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo
Drift' Premiere With the upcoming release of the Universal Studios film 'The Fast &
The Furious: Tokyo Drift,' the sport of drifting is poised to blow up,
exposing the fast-rising motorsport to a much wider audience. Mopar and
Samuel Hubinette will do their part to show the world what getting
sideways is all about, as the "Crazy Swede" and his new Mopar Dodge
Charger SRT8 will make an appearance at a June 4 media event in support of
the world premiere of the film.
Hubinette, who served as a stunt driver for the film, will take
representatives from media outlets for ride-alongs in his Mopar Dodge
Viper SRT10. Media formerly unfamiliar with the sport will literally get a
front-row seat to discover firsthand the tire-smoking excitement of
drifting. Hubinette's new Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8, which will soon make
its debut on the Formula D Drift Series, will also be on display at the
event.
The event will feature the film's director, Justin Lin, in a roundtable
discussion, and attendees will have the chance to preview the new 'The
Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift' ride at the Universal Studios theme
park. Later that night, Hubinette will walk the red carpet when the film
has its world premiere at the Gibson Amphitheatre. The film, which focuses
on an American street racer who is sent to Japan and becomes enmeshed in
the underground world of drift racing, will be released nationwide June
16.
"At Mopar, we do our best to get involved in enthusiast movements early
on in their life cycle," said BJ Birtwell, Youth/Urban Marketing Manager
for DaimlerChrysler. "Mopar and Samuel Hubinette were there at the
beginning, and as drifting jumps to the next level, we'll continue to be
one of the driving forces in the sport."
Hubinette, who won the inaugural Formula D Drift championship in 2004
and posted a runner-up finish in 2005, currently leads the 2006 Formula D
points race heading into the third event at Solider Field in Chicago, set
for June 9-10. The "Crazy Swede" took the win at the first event in April
at Long Beach, Calif., and notched a runner-up finish in the May event
near Atlanta, Ga. For info on Mopar, Hubinette, 'The Fast & The
Furious: Tokyo Drift' or the Formula D Drift Series, go to moparspeed.com, mopar.com, samuelhubinette.com, thefastandthefurious.com or formulad.com. |

4, in support of "The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift" world premiere
later that night. Hubinette will give ride-alongs to mainstream media in
his Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10 and will display his new Mopar Dodge Charger
SRT8 at the event as well. |
