Coons Jr Wise Ready to Battle for USAC Midget Title
Team Mopar has its sights set on another USAC National Midget Car
Series championship, as the 66th Annual Turkey Night Grand Prix event will
see Jerry Coons Jr., and defending series champion Josh Wise

already notched the USAC National Sprint Car Series championship in 2006.
His Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises teammate Levi Jones is
currently ranked sixth in the USAC Midget points chase, with Tom
Hessert Jr., rounding out the Top-10 in 10th. The event will also

Stevens Jr. Rakes in $25,000 at NHRA Banquet
Team Mopar's Richie Stevens Jr., pocketed an additional $25,000
in prize money at this year's NHRA POWERade Drag Racing awards banquet on
Monday, November 13, as he won the Motel 6 "Who Got The Light" overall
award for the season. Stevens Jr., drove his Don Schumacher Racing/J&J
Racing Mopar/Valspar Dodge Stratus R/T to a .0003 margin of victory over
competitor Jim Yates in the first round of the O'Reilly Midwest Nationals
at Gateway International Raceway on June 25, to earn the award for the
event. The impressive margin held throughout the remainder of the season,
ending as Stevens Jr., collected the overall winner's share during the
season finale weekend.
The Motel 6 "Who Got The Light" award is hosted by the hotel chain at
each NHRA POWERade Drag Racing event. Competitors in the margin-of-victory
contest include Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock competitors at each
event. The drivers who survive a round of eliminations with the closest
margin of victory, compared to their competitors, are awarded $1,000, and
may go on to compete for the $25,000 cash bonus. The closest
"photo-finish" victory for the season was rewarded with this sum at the
conclusion of the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Stevens Jr., finished ninth in the 2006 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Series
Championship. The Mopar/Valspar Dodge Stratus R/T entry he piloted was
fielded by Don Schumacher Racing and J&J Racing. Teammate Allen
Johnson drove his J&J Racing Team Mopar Dodge Stratus R/T entry to a
sixth-place finish in the points championship, just missing his first
Top-five in the series. Both entries were tuned by J&J Racing co-owner
Roy Johnson and Mark Ingersoll.
