| Boniferro and Janzen pleased with
PMRA season

Co-champions to be honored at upcoming banquet
CAYUGA, Ontario (October 27, 2006) – With intense competition and a
different winner at each event, deciding the 2006 champion in the Pro
Modified Racing Association series came right down to the last race.
But with the cancellation of the Lancaster, NY race due to snow in early
October, the title was awarded to Joe Boniferro and Kasey Janzen, who
were tied in points.
“This has been a fantastic season,” stated Boniferro, of Niagara Falls,
Ontario, and driver of the Smokin’ Joe’s 1999 Dodge Avenger. Boniferro
won the Grand Bend Motorplex PMRA race over the Labor Day weekend, and
is known in the series for his consistent times. “I want to thank all
the fans at our races,” he added. “They’ve been good fans. I also want
to thank the tracks we went to this year for giving us a place to race.”
The other 2006 PMRA champion is Kasey Janzen of St. Catharines, who has
also been a big part of the series since its inception two years ago.
“I’m the PMRA’s biggest supporter,” said the driver of the KC
Motorsports Chevy Lumina. “We put on a good show for the fans this year.
We always came up to the line ready to race down the track.”
Janzen, who attended all five PMRA events this year, won the race held
at St. Thomas Dragway in August.
Both
drivers will be back for next season, and both said they are looking
forward to it. They also wanted to thank their sponsors for their
support during the season.
Kasey Janzen and Joe Boniferro will be honored at the annual Pro
Modified Racing Association Champions Banquet in Niagara Falls, Ontario
at the CopaCabana Steakhouse Thursday, November 9.
The CopaCabana Steakhouse, www.copacabana.ca is Niagara's first and only
Brazilian Steakhouse. They specialize in Brazil's most popular style of
dining known as Churrascaria de Rodizio. Their chefs take great pride in
offering a vast variety of all you can eat salad bar, hot buffet, and
barbecued meats carved table side.
A very limited number of additional tickets are available on a first
come, first serve basis at a cost of $40.00 each.
The PMRA and its member teams traveled to several new drag strips in
2006, including Sanair in Quebec, and the western Ontario tracks of St.
Thomas Dragway and the Grand Bend Motorplex. The tour was a great
success for the series, which enjoyed strong fan popularity.
Negotiations are underway to return to these tracks, along with Toronto
Motorsports Park and Lancaster Raceway Park and several other venues to
present some of the best in Pro Modified racing for 2007.
About the Pro Modified Racing Association
The Pro Modified Racing Association, www.ProModifiedRacing.com, started
late in 2004 and entering its second year of operation, the Pro Modified
Racing Association ran five events in 2005 at four Ontario, Quebec, and
New York locations. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity
see, hear and to experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the
world's fastest door slammers".
The PMRA is a self-governing organization with its own set of technical
and safety rules based on the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA)
Pro Modified division. Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot
rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and
volatile classes, capturing the true spirit of hot rodding and offering
a wildly diverse group of racecars with different types of
2,000-horsepower engines. Combining classic body styles and modern
equipment, constructors are permitted to extensively modify and enhance
both appearance and performance. The cars burn gasoline or methanol,
propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over
225 miles per hour. The PMRA Pro Modified field is composed of the eight
quickest teams from the qualifying rounds. |
