HERBERT LOOKS TO TURN THE PAGE IN
HOUSTON
Baytown, Texas: With the first three races of the 2007 NHRA POWERade
Drag Racing Series in the books, Doug Herbert looks to turn the page on
a new chapter this weekend at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in
Baytown, Texas.
Even as he plans on the turning the page, it will be a bittersweet
weekend. Fellow professional driver Eric Medlen lost his life after
suffering critical injuries during an accident at last Monday’s (March
19) test session in Gainesville, Fla.
“Eric was always smiling,” said Herbert, “one of the really nice guys
out there. He was a fan favorite, and it was always easy to see why. My
thoughts and prayers are with John Medlen and his entire family, and
everyone who loved Eric. He will be greatly missed, but never
forgotten.”
As the entire drag racing community mourns the loss of one of its own,
Herbert and the other drivers will do what they know best: race.
“We have learned a lot about our team in the past week,” said Herbert.
“We had Snap-on representatives with us teaching us how to incorporate
some of their business principles into our rebuild process. We are a
quicker, more efficient bunch of guys, but more importantly, we’ve
really come together as a team.
“In 1999 we became the only Top Fuel team to ever win the prestigious
Winston “No Bull” Challenge, and that happened here in Baytown. We’re
going to think about what it felt like to win here, put into practice
what we learned last week with Snap-on, and go some rounds. We’re ready
for a win.”
