RAIN TAKES OUT FINAL DAY OF QUALIFYING ; SAMPEY SECOND, BROWN SIXTH SCHUMACHER ENDS UP FIFTH

BAYTOWN, Tex., March 31 - With the final two qualifying sessions being lost to rain here on Saturday, U.S. Army NHRA drivers Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher, Angelle Sampey and Antron Brown will now turn their attention to tomorrow's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. In Top Fuel, Schumacher will come out of the fifth starting spot when eliminations begin at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, while in Pro Stock Motorcycles, Sampey and Brown will start from the second and sixth positions, respectively. Top Fuel In the opening round of the 20th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals, the defending NHRA POWERade Top Fuel world champion will square off with 12th-place qualifier, Brandon Bernstein. "We'll have a tough customer right off the bat with Brandon," said Schumacher. "As always, we'll have to bring our 'A' game if we're going to win the race." A concern for all of the teams on race day will be a "green" track. With Saturday's rain, all of the tire rubber that was put on the track surface on Friday has now been washed away. "Everyone will be in the same boat," added the Chicago native. "We'll just have to adjust to the different conditions." Pro Stock Motorcycles Sampey, who barely lost out on her second straight pole on Friday, will take on 15th-place qualifier, Shawn Gann, in the first round of action. "I know I have a great U.S. Army Suzuki for tomorrow, so I just have to make sure I do my job," offered the three-time world champion. "I'm looking forward to getting going." After ending up on the same side of the eliminations ladder as his teammate, Brown will confront 11th-place qualifier, Scott Lewis, in the first round. "Like Angelle, I also have a fast U.S. Army Suzuki," he said. "We'll have to stay focused the whole day if we're going to get to winner's circle. This Pro Stock Motorcycle class is ultra competitive so you can't take anyone lightly." ESPN2 will provide taped-delayed race coverage beginning at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday.
